Fire at Chilean nursing home kills at least 16, ten patients rescued

Around 10 p.m. local time, a large fire broke out at a retirement home near Pitrufquén in southern Chile. The blaze resulted in at least 16 fatalities, according to one outlet authorities. Ten elderly residents were successfully evacuated and are currently receiving medical evaluation at a nearby hospital. The prosecutor of Pitrufquén reported that 26 adults were present in the facility at the time of the fire, though not all were elderly. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigators are working to establish the origin of the blaze.
