Fire at Pasir Gudang dump spreads to nearby fibre storage, crews battle blaze

A night-time fire at a rubbish dump in Pasir Gudang expanded to an adjacent fibre storage area, prompting a prolonged firefighting effort.

At approximately 10.04 p.m., a fire broke out at an open-air rubbish disposal site along Jalan Muhibbah in Kampung Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang. Within minutes, firefighters from the Pasir Gudang and Johor Jaya fire and rescue stations responded, finding the waste already ablaze. The flames spread to a neighbouring fibre storage area where buoy blocks were stacked up to ten feet high, enlarging the affected zone to an estimated 46.5 square metres by 3.17 a.m. The operation involved 18 firefighters and was hampered by the absence of a local water supply, requiring the use of seawater and repeated trips to a hydrant 3.5 km away.

At 5.33 a.m., crews divided into two fronts, each deploying 400-foot hose lines with seawater-fed pumps. Residents livestreamed the incident on TikTok, but no injuries were reported and authorities are still probing the fire’s origin. The firefighting effort continued as the story was reported.
