Fire breaks out on M-505 near Cofio River in Madrid's Sierra Oeste
A new forest fire ignited on the M-505 near the Cofio River bridge in the Sierra Oeste, prompting a multi-agency response.
A forest fire erupted on Tuesday afternoon on the M-505 highway at the Cofio River bridge in the Sierra Oeste, within the municipality of Santa María de la Alameda. The Community of Madrid's fire service has mobilised six aircraft and fourteen ground units, comprising regular firefighters, forest specialists and environmental agents. Authorities have confined the settlements of La Paradilla and the La Estación residential area because of potential smoke exposure, and have closed the stretch of the M-505 between La Paradilla and the bridge.
Emergency officials remain optimistic about containment, while aerial resources from Castilla-La Mancha's forest fire service and the national Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge have been requested to assist. The region previously suffered a severe fire in July that affected large areas and many municipalities, prompting a national emergency declaration at that time.
