Fire devastates £8 million Grade-II listed Cotswolds manor a year after sale

Barton House, a Grade-II listed manor dating back to the 17th century in the Cotswolds, was set alight by an electrical fault in a light fitting on the first floor on Saturday. The property, purchased for £8.28 million in January 2025, suffered extensive damage, including the loss of its roof, after fire crews battled the inferno for nearly 12 hours, finally bringing it under control at 11.30 pm. The unnamed owners said they were in shock and grateful for the support of local residents, with about 30 volunteers from Guiting Power assisting in the clean-up.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service deployed eight engines, three jets, two hose reels and 24 breathing-apparatus units. The manor, which also includes a pool house, swimming pool and tennis court, remains a prominent feature of the Cotswold National Landscape, and the community mourns the damage to the historic building.
