Fire razes 52 homes in Central Jakarta, leaving 340 people homeless

A blaze in a crowded neighbourhood of Central Jakarta destroyed 52 houses, forcing 340 residents from 114 families to seek temporary shelter.

Around 6.30 pm on Thursday, a fire broke out on Jalan Kramat Pulo Dalam II in the Kramat urban village of Senen district, Central Jakarta, engulfing 52 houses in a densely populated area. The blaze left 340 residents, representing 114 families, without homes but caused no reported casualties. Police are investigating the incident, with an electrical short circuit being the initial hypothesis.

Senen district head Erik A.P. confirmed that two temporary shelters have been set up for the displaced families. The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) chairman Asep Djuanda said the organization sent personnel and an ambulance to provide medical assistance, conducting consultations inside the vehicle due to limited space. Local authorities distributed food and other essential items to support the victims while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
