Firefighter Caught in Flaming Barricade During Bordeaux School Protest
A firefighter was briefly engulfed by flames when a barricade exploded in front of a blocked high school in Bordeaux.
In Bordeaux, a high school on Rue Sainte-Catherine was sealed off as dozens of students demonstrated as part of a public-service strike. When fire crews responded, an aerosol device ignited the pile of waste used to block the entrance, causing an explosion that showered a firefighter with flames. Video on social media captured the brief moment the responder was surrounded by fire before his colleagues turned him away for treatment.
He was transported to a hospital, recovered enough to go back to his fire station later that afternoon, and was prescribed a few days of sick leave. Prefect Sophie Brocas, speaking with the regional education authority, strongly condemned the act, stating that no protest justifies endangering emergency personnel.
