First F-15EX bound for Kadena makes stop at Oregon Air National Guard Base
The initial F-15EX Eagle II destined for Japan paused at Portland Air National Guard Base before proceeding to Kadena Air Base.
A brand-new F-15EX Eagle II, built at Boeing's St. Louis facility, arrived at Portland Air National Guard Base in Oregon on its way to Kadena Air Base, Japan. Brig. Gen. John Gallemore noted the stop as an important step toward delivering the jet to Kadena, where it will become the second base worldwide to operate the type.
The US Air Force plans to station the aircraft permanently at Kadena starting in fiscal year 2027, with the full squadron in place by 2028. Kadena's 18th Wing has already conducted familiarization flights with test F-15EXs to build expertise. The move expands the US-Japan defense partnership and adds a 4.5-generation fighter to the Pacific theater.
