First Look at iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Reveals New Camera Controls and Colors

Apple unveiled its iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at the company’s Apple Park campus, offering a design that mirrors the prior generation while introducing color-matched glass backs in four shades: black, silver, glacier (a blue tone) and burgundy. The most significant hardware change is a variable-aperture camera system that lets users choose between f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0, or let the aperture adjust automatically, and includes manual controls for shutter speed, white balance and focus with on-screen focus peaking.

The native camera app now provides these “pro” controls, addressing long-standing user requests. The Dynamic Island has been shrunk and can present up to three Live Activities at once, a capability the reviewer confirmed works. Availability is set for pre-order on September 12, with the devices shipping on September 18; the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299.
