Fitbit Edge Revives Classic Tracker Design with AI Enhancements

The $179.99 Fitbit Edge brings back the sleek, lightweight look of earlier Fitbit bands while adding AI-driven activity tracking and a week-long battery.

The Fitbit Edge, priced at $179.99, reintroduces the minimalist aesthetic of earlier Fitbit bands with a fully rounded screen and a side button for easy navigation. Users can swap straps, including a $150 metal link option or a $60 magnetic silicone band, though accessory costs are steep. The tracker runs on a proprietary Fitbit OS, not Wear OS, and provides built-in GPS, alarm, notification, and music controls, but omits microphones, speakers and NFC payments.

Google Health now powers the companion app, offering an AI coach for a $10 monthly subscription after a three-month free trial, and it has refined automatic activity tracking that can recognize transitions between walking and running. Battery life lasts about a week in normal mode but shrinks to roughly a day and a half with the always-on display. Critics note the high price compared to cheaper alternatives like the Fitbit Air, Apple Watch SE 3, Xiaomi and Amazfit trackers.

Why it matters

The Edge shows how wearables are balancing classic simplicity with AI features, influencing consumer choices in the fitness tracker market.
