Five Cibinong prison officials suspended after ombudsman uncovers luxury housing
Five senior staff at Cibinong prison were suspended after the ombudsman found a luxury housing complex near the facility.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs placed five senior officials from the Cibinong Class IIA Correctional Facility on suspension after the national Ombudsman reported a luxury housing complex on prison grounds. The suspended staff include prison head Wisnu Hani Putranto, the heads of security, inmate guidance, order, and general affairs. Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, acting on directives from Minister Agus Andrianto, led a field inspection that revisited the sites highlighted by the Ombudsman, noting discrepancies between earlier photographs and current conditions.
The investigation will question about 50 staff members and 52 inmates, and any violations will be punished under Government Regulation No. 94 of 2021 on civil servant discipline. The Ombudsman’s surprise visit on September 23 was initially blocked by prison staff, but they eventually documented ten well-fitted houses with air-conditioning and kitchens, allegedly used as rest areas for employees. The case raises concerns about misuse of public resources within Indonesia’s prison system.
