Five-member family found dead in alleged suicide pact at Srisailam pilgrim lodge

Five relatives from Bathalapalli were discovered dead in a presumed joint suicide at a pilgrim choultry in Srisailam.

A tragic incident unfolded at the Vaddera Choultries pilgrim accommodation in Srisailam, where five members of a single family were found dead in what investigators describe as a mass suicide pact. The deceased - identified as Gogula Adi Lakshmi (50), Malleswari (45), P Sudhakar (36), Sridevi (33) and Manikanta (15) - all originated from Bathalapalli village in Sri Sathya Sai district and had been residing at the lodge for nearly a month.

Staff became concerned when the family was unseen for two consecutive days and a foul smell emanated from their room, leading them to force entry. Inside, three women were discovered lifeless in the bathroom while two others were hanging from a ceiling fan. A police team headed by Atmakur DSP Ramanjaneyulu secured the scene, registered a case, and indicated that acute financial distress may have driven the family to this extreme step. The investigation remains ongoing.
