Five migrants drown while attempting illegal crossing of Kupa River near Croatia-Slovenia border
Five people drowned in the Kupa River on Friday afternoon while trying to cross illegally from Croatia into Slovenia, authorities said.
The incident occurred near the settlement of Damalj, close to Severin na Kupi, along the Croatia-Slovenia frontier. Police in Vrbovsko received a call at 15:30 from the Delnice police about the emergency. Responders found the victims in the river and confirmed they had been attempting an illegal border crossing. The Croatian coastal-highland police command reported the tragedy.
