Flash flood blocks key Jajarkot-Dolpa highway, razes homes and shops

Heavy rain caused a flash flood in Nalgad, Jajarkot, completely closing the Bheri Corridor and washing away temporary houses and businesses, police said.

A sudden flood in the Nalgad area of Jajarkot district, caused by heavy rain, inundated the Baulaha Khola river and completely blocked a stretch of the Bheri Corridor that links Jajarkot with Dolpa. The waters swept away temporary dwellings and commercial structures in ward 1, including a grocery shop, a poultry feed shed, a fresh-meat shop and about 100 broiler chickens, while damaging another grocery outlet and partially burying an auto-rickshaw and a tractor.

A water mill in Nalgad-2 was also washed away. Police reported no deaths or injuries. Inspector Suman Gaire said authorities are assessing the full extent of the loss, and a ten-person police unit under Inspector Kiran Sapkota has been sent to assist with rescue and relief operations.
