Approximately 50 individuals staying near the historic Phantom Ranch were lifted out by helicopter as part of an aerial evacuation. The agency announced the closure of the whole North Kaibab Trail and the Phantom Ranch area, directing visitors to stay clear of the flood-impacted zones.
Officials said no one was injured in the event. The lodge operator, which normally books out months ahead, will contact guests about the status of their reservations. The park remains a top-visited destination, but access to the lower canyon is temporarily suspended.
