Flash floods swamp dozens of homes and roads in Penang's Butterworth and Seberang Jaya

Heavy rain caused flash flooding that inundated about 20 homes in Butterworth and flooded streets in Seberang Jaya, prompting brief emergency responses.

Intense rainfall caused flash floods that submerged about 20 residences in Butterworth's Taman Cantek area, with water depth around 0.3 metres. The Penang Fire and Rescue Department sent five personnel who monitored the situation and ended the operation by 1.10 am after the water began to recede. A similar flood event occurred on Jalan Jelawat in Seberang Jaya, where rising drain levels flooded the road and nearby homes; firefighters responded at 3.24 am and wrapped up the watch at 3.51 am without needing rescues.

Additionally, a six-metre durian tree toppled onto a house and a Perodua Kelisa on Jalan Pantai Acheh in Kampung Batu Putih, Balik Pulau; the 50-year-old driver escaped injury. Eight fire crew members cleared the debris with help from the Penang Island City Council, finishing the operation at 2.43 am.
