Flipkart adds over 250,000 seasonal jobs as online shopping spikes

Flipkart announced the creation of more than 250,000 direct and indirect jobs for the festive period, with roughly 75,000 positions for people entering the workforce for the first time.

Flipkart reported that it has generated more than 250,000 employment opportunities for the upcoming festive season, including about 75,000 jobs for first-time workers. The expansion involves over 7,000 Ekart facilities, 900 additional delivery hubs and nearly 140,000 new last-mile roles, reflecting growth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets and the rollout of Flipkart Minutes. Women now comprise over 20% of supply-chain staff, and the share of workers with disabilities is also increasing across warehouses and delivery.

Through its Supply Chain Operations Academy, the company has awarded nearly 10,000 certifications in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani. Senior executives Rajneesh Kumar and Hemant Badri highlighted the link between digital commerce growth and broader livelihood creation. The move comes as Flipkart competes with quick-commerce players such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart, while Amazon India has announced its own 160,000 seasonal jobs.

Why it matters

The hiring surge shows how India's e-commerce boom is creating large-scale employment and skill-building opportunities.
