Flood destroys dozens of homes in Parbat and landslide kills one in Palpa

Intense rainfall caused the Kaligandaki River to burst its banks, flooding the Farse settlement in Jaljala Rural Municipality-8, Parbat district, and sweeping away around 80 houses. Residents were urged to move to safer areas, and a joint task force from the Armed Police Force’s No. 25 Chandika Battalion and Nepal Police evacuated people and their belongings, though no deaths have been confirmed there yet. Meanwhile, continuous rain triggered a landslide in Bhaisekkata, Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-3, Palpa district, which collapsed a house and a cattle shed, killing 75-year-old Lil Bahadur Gharti Magar.
His daughters, 17-year-old Dina Gharti Magar and 15-year-old Jharana Gharti, remain missing as rescue crews, aided by a JCB excavator, continue the search. The affected areas are also without electricity and telephone service, hampering communication and damage assessment. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa indicated that a detailed evaluation of the damage is ongoing.
