Floods Impact Over 4.6 Million People Across Fifteen Districts in Bihar

In Bihar, relentless rainfall combined with heavy downpours in Nepal's catchment areas has pushed rivers beyond safe levels, leaving more than 4.6 million people across fifteen districts in distress. The Disaster Management Department reports that about 4.688 million individuals in 561 gram panchayats across 88 blocks are affected, with Bhagalpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Katihar, Purnea and Buxar among the most impacted.

Water levels remain above the danger threshold at multiple points, including the Ganga at Sultanganj, which is 2.12 metres over the limit. Relief operations feature 1,194 community kitchens, 15 camps serving 11,255 flood victims, distribution of roughly 310,000 polythene sheets, 48,300 dry-ration packets, and 7,535 quintals of animal fodder. Approximately 1,922 boats are deployed for evacuation, and 27 SDRF and 10 NDRF teams are on the ground. Forecasts predict light to moderate rain in the coming days, with isolated chances of heavier showers.
