Florida couple charged after keeping four kids confined in truck cab for years

Keisha Epps and her fiancé Tamra Marshon Stewart have been arrested on child-neglect charges for allegedly confining four children in the cab of a tractor-trailer for almost six years.

Keisha Epps, 51, and her fiancé Tamra Marshon Stewart, 37, were taken into custody on August 6, 2026 and charged with four counts of child neglect, one for each of four children allegedly held in the cab of a tractor-trailer for nearly six years. The couple reportedly lived in the vehicle while Epps worked as a truck driver on a Miami-Atlanta route, with the children confined for most of their days since December 2019.

Children told investigators they were denied showers, restroom use, schooling for about five years, and adequate food, and one recounted a serious burn that was left untreated, leaving a permanent scar. A detective noted the children walked with an abnormal gait from prolonged confinement, and the report states they were beaten by Stewart after confronting him about observed sexual abuse. Stewart is expected to face capital sexual battery charges, which in Florida can carry the death penalty or life without parole. Both suspects are being held in Duval County Jail, with Epps’s bond set at $400,012 and Stewart held without bond.

Why it matters

The case highlights extreme child-neglect and abuse, raising concerns about oversight of vulnerable children in mobile living situations.
