Florida deputy kills mother of two before taking his own life

A Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy shot a mother of two and then died by suicide after a dispute over a television.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Troy Savetz, 47, was stationed in the yard of a Hudson residence when a mother of two and her kids arrived from the beach. During a heated exchange about a television, she told the children to run inside and dial 911 before being seized and taken away. Authorities tracked the rental car to Platinum Drive in Spring Hill, where they discovered Savetz and the woman dead from gunshot injuries.

The victim’s name has not been released, and her two children have been placed with their biological father. Sheriff Bob Gualtieri condemned the deputy’s actions as criminal, and the incident remains under investigation.
