Florida Driver Sparks Standoff at Mar-a-Lago Checkpoint, Dog Killed
A 29-year-old Florida woman drove through a Secret Service checkpoint at Mar-a-Lago, leading to a confrontation that ended with her pit bull being shot dead after biting an officer.
On Tuesday night, Alexa Rae Scharf, 29, drove an SUV through a sealed Secret Service checkpoint at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, refusing to comply with officers' demands for identification. She parked near screening tents, turned on a hose, and when questioned, said she was there for a car wash before returning to her vehicle and attempting to force her way past an agent. After a brief pursuit, police shattered her driver-side window and detained her, but her pit bull inside the car attacked, biting an officer.
The animal was subsequently shot twice, resulting in its death. Authorities reported damage to a nearby home’s gate and noted Scharf’s evasive driving, including backing up toward officers and weaving through police cruisers. She now faces multiple counts, such as aggravated assault, resisting an officer without violence, and eluding police.
