Florida election officials strip Donald Trump's voter file details after his privacy request

Florida’s Palm Beach elections office removed Donald Trump’s address, birthdate, party affiliation and email from public voter records after he filed a notarized request citing a new state privacy statute that does not expressly cover the president.

In a move that shields his home address, birth date, party registration and email from public view, Florida’s Palm Beach County elections office deleted Donald Trump’s personal details from the state’s voter registration database after he submitted a notarized petition on March 24. The petition, attested by longtime aide Chamberlain Harris, invoked a privacy law enacted in July 2025 and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, which allows certain elected officials—including members of Congress, the governor, lieutenant governor and other state officers—to keep their information confidential, but does not mention the U.S. president.

Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link’s office approved the request as a routine administrative task and did not assess its legality. Senator Jason Brodeur noted the omission of the president was likely an oversight and expressed support for extending protection to Trump given past assassination attempts. The removal makes it harder to determine how Trump casts his ballot, as Florida records note the voting method but not the candidate’s choice.

The alteration came to light when a University of Florida public-records class could not locate Trump’s voter file, prompting the discovery. Family members’ records remain publicly accessible, and the office has not indicated whether the data will be restored.

Why it matters

The case highlights how a state privacy law can be used to hide a former president’s personal data, raising questions about transparency and election oversight.
