Florida man captured on video loading dismembered stepfather remains into suitcases, police say

Police released footage of a 44-year-old Florida man being taken to a cruiser after investigators said he killed his elderly stepfather and placed body parts in suitcases.

In a video shared by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Jose L. Proano is seen being led into a police cruiser after his arrest. Officials claim Proano killed his elderly stepfather, Jorge Vazquez-Escutia, and dismembered the corpse, with human remains later found packed in suitcases close to Proano’s home. The victim was reported missing from his Hal Court residence, and a police report indicated Proano had threatened him and suffers from schizophrenia.

Law enforcement officers canvassed the area and recovered the suitcases containing multiple body parts. Sheriff’s officials emphasized that no other suspects are being pursued and that the public faces no current danger. A neighbor recalled the victim as a helpful longtime resident of the neighborhood.
