Florida man found guilty after swallowing $770,000 in Tiffany earrings
Jaythan Gilder was convicted of robbery and grand theft for stealing two high-value Tiffany & Co. earring sets and attempting to swallow them.
Jaythan Gilder, then 32, was found guilty of robbery and grand theft for a February 2025 heist at a Tiffany & Co. boutique in Orlando’s Mall at Millenia. He gained entry by claiming to represent an Orlando Magic player, then seized two earring sets—one valued at $160,000 and another at $609,500. During his escape he used force against a store employee and later attempted to swallow the stolen jewelry, prompting a high-speed chase on Interstate 10.
After being stopped, he resisted arrest but was detained; a subsequent body scan revealed the earrings moving through his digestive system, leading to a two-week hospitalization before they were expelled, cleaned by Tiffany’s master jeweler, and handed back to the store. State Attorney Monique Worrell highlighted the case’s impact on employee safety and affirmed the community’s intolerance for violent theft.
Why it matters
The case underscores risks to retail workers and shows law enforcement can recover concealed high-value theft.
