Florida man receives life without parole for marina murder captured on video

Kamal Padlowski was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2024 killing of Melvin Jimenez after a drunken fight on a sailboat and dock at Little Harbor Marina.

In Hillsborough County Court, Kamal Padlowski, 52, received a life-without-parole sentence for the May 25, 2024 murder of 47-year-old Melvin Jimenez at Little Harbor Marina in Ruskin, Florida. The dispute started after the two men met at the Sunset Bar and Grill and continued drinking on Padlowski’s sailboat with his fiancée present. A video of the altercation shows Padlowski striking Jimenez, pushing him onto the dock, and dragging the unconscious man into the water before retrieving knives.

Padlowski asserted he acted in self-defense, claiming Jimenez threatened to kill him and assault his fiancée, but prosecutors argued no imminent danger existed. Judge Michelle Sisco emphasized the brutality and lack of sympathy during sentencing. Jimenez’s stepdaughter delivered an emotional impact statement, and Padlowski’s attorney announced plans to appeal, arguing the victim may have died from the fall rather than the water.
