Florida nurse arrested after infant's death linked to ring injury
Jessica Vlasac, a 42-year-old nurse, was charged with aggravated child abuse after her three-month-old son died from head injuries that investigators say were caused by her diamond ring.
On the night of September 6, Lakeland nurse Jessica Vlasac called emergency services after finding her three-month-old son, August Lionel, motionless and cold. Paramedics transported the infant to Orlando Health Medical hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy showed subdural bleeding and three distinct head injuries, including one consistent with impact from a small, square object.
Investigators observed a diamond-like stone on Vlasac’s ring finger that matched the wound description. The boy’s father told detectives that Vlasac tends to become violent after consuming alcohol and provided text messages in which she admitted the child was dead. Vlasac was arrested, charged with felony aggravated child abuse resulting in death, denied bond, and is scheduled for a pre-trial detention hearing.
