Florida Rep. Randy Fine Caught on Doorbell Camera Opening a Mailbox

Video released on Tuesday shows Rep. Randy Fine opening a mailbox and looking through the mail, an act that can be a federal offense.

A Ring doorbell video posted on Tuesday depicts Rep. Randy Fine ringing a doorbell, pausing on a porch, and then opening a nearby mailbox to examine the mail inside. Under 18 USC 1702, tampering with another person’s mailbox can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison and substantial fines, though accidental handling of misdelivered mail is generally not prosecuted. Fine’s office has not replied to inquiries about the incident.

The lawmaker, who won a special election in 2025 to fill Michael Waltz’s seat, is running for another term in 2026. He has received more than $126,000 in direct contributions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and was the sole Republican to oppose attaching the SAVE America Act to a State Department funding bill. Earlier, he said a personal matter required attention, later revealed to involve a demand that the Trump administration dismiss White House adviser Alex Bruesewitz.

Why it matters

The incident raises questions about a lawmaker’s respect for federal mail-tampering statutes and potential political repercussions.
