Florida Rep. Salazar warns Trump his advisers may be misguiding his immigration stance

Florida Republican Representative María Elvira Salazar used a televised interview to caution President Donald Trump that some of his close advisers may be providing incomplete or harmful guidance, especially on immigration. When host Margaret Brennan mentioned officials like Secretary Mullin, border czar Tom Homan and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, Salazar stopped short of naming a specific “bad actor” but stressed that Trump alone must decide whom to trust.

She previously aired similar concerns in a campaign advertisement, noting that half of 50,000 detainees in July had no criminal record. Trump responded to the ad with a measured comment and praised Salazar’s election, saying she wouldn’t have won without his support. The White House did not immediately comment, and a recent Pew poll shows public confidence in Trump’s immigration stance has slipped from 53% to 41% since November 2024. Salazar warned that the hard-line approach could hurt the party in the midterm elections.
