Florida Republican Nominee Faces Identity Dispute and Federal Fraud Indictment

In Florida's heavily Democratic 24th Congressional District, Te Mayonna Brown advanced to the general election unopposed on the Republican side, after the primary was cancelled. Earlier this year, a candidate named Tedora M. Brown ran in Illinois's 11th District, receiving 5.7 percent of the vote, and is currently facing a federal indictment alleging she and her husband Christopher Scott obtained hundreds of thousands of dollars in COVID relief loans through fictitious employees.

Records show that the same campaign treasurer, Dratonyai Ratcliff, filed paperwork for both the Illinois and Florida campaigns, and a company registered in Illinois lists Brown at a Palos Park address. Brown has consistently asserted she is not the indicted individual, even accusing the interviewer of being law enforcement. The overlap of names, addresses, and business entities raises questions about candidate transparency in a race that has attracted little media attention.
