Florida rescues 163 missing children in largest statewide recovery effort
Florida authorities announced that 163 children, ages ranging from two months to 17 years, were rescued in a multi-state and international operation, with several arrests made.
In a statement on Tuesday, Attorney General James Uthmeier reported that Operation Statewide Shield rescued 163 missing children, whose ages range from two months to 17 years, marking the largest child-recovery mission in Florida history. The effort involved coordinated actions in seven Florida cities—Pensacola, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers and Miami—and extended to other U.S. states and more than a dozen foreign nations.
Law-enforcement agencies, notably the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Office of Statewide Prosecution, executed multiple arrests and anticipate additional detentions as investigations continue. Florida Department of Children and Families Assistant Secretary Jonathan Stephens credited the partnership of government, faith organizations, nonprofits and private entities for the success. Governor DeSantis’ administration pledged ongoing collaboration to pursue predators and prosecute offenders. Representative Danny Alvarez warned that perpetrators will face relentless pursuit by state authorities.
