Florida's teen mayor faces assault allegation after campaign sign incident

At a New Smyrna Beach early-voting location, Edgewater Mayor Diezel Depew reportedly moved a campaign sign into the path of veteran Donna McDavid, who says the sign struck her nose and chest. McDavid, who supports Depew's rival Wayne McCloskey, filed a battery report, yet police have not confirmed the impact and no criminal charges have been filed. Depew, who called the complaint a false police report and a politically motivated smear, has not been taken into custody.

The episode follows earlier disputes involving Depew, including past allegations of under-age drinking and offensive language. Depew, elected at 18 and campaigning for re-election on the slogan “Edgewater runs on Diezel,” continues to face scrutiny as he seeks a second term.
