Florida Senate hopeful Angie Nixon claims Trump’s Venezuela oil pact promotes communism

Angie Nixon, a Democratic Senate contender in Florida and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, criticized President Donald Trump on Monday, asserting that his recent oil agreement with Venezuela advances communism. Speaking on MS NOW’s "The Beat," she connected the deal—covering over 65 billion barrels of proven reserves—to a broader socialist threat that she claims both Trump and her GOP rival, Senator Ashley Moody, endorse.

Nixon highlighted the anxieties of Venezuelan and Cuban immigrants who fear socialist policies based on their experiences in communist regimes. She also clarified that her DSA affiliation stems from a focus on public housing, healthcare, veteran support, and campaign finance reform, denying support for radical proposals such as abolishing the Senate. The Republican National Committee, via spokeswoman Emma Hall, countered by portraying Nixon as a socialist extremist seeking to empty prisons, open borders, and raise taxes. One outlet reached out to Moody’s campaign and the White House for comment, but no response was reported.
