Florida Woman Arrested for Using Deceased Sister's Identity to Collect Section 8 Rent
Shadaryl Eddie was detained in Broward County after allegedly posing as her late sister to obtain a federal housing voucher and have rent paid by taxpayers.
In a case involving alleged fraud against a federal public housing program, Shadaryl Eddie was arrested in the Oakland Park area of Miami and charged with illegal use of personal identification and grand theft. Prosecutors allege she used her deceased sister’s birth certificate and Social Security card to obtain a Section 8 voucher, which a landlord accepted in March 2025. The housing authority later declared the voucher invalid, resulting in an $8,357 rent claim against the landlord and over $11,000 in combined lost rent and legal expenses.
The investigation revealed the sister had died on December 11, 2024. Eddie was evicted, relocated, and is now held in Broward County Jail without bail, facing up to three years for ID misuse and up to five years for grand theft. No plea or legal representation has been recorded yet.
