Forbes Unveils Selection Process for Its 2026 Top Lawyers List
Forbes will soon publish its third-annual America’s Top Lawyers ranking, using a multi-stage editorial review to identify leading private-practice attorneys.
Forbes is set to debut its third-annual America’s Top Lawyers list, spotlighting the nation’s most distinguished private-practice attorneys. The ranking results from a rigorous, multi-stage editorial process designed by a team experienced in law practice and the legal marketplace. Candidates were identified via interviews with industry insiders, external nominations, and outreach to law firms as well as local, state and national bar associations, ensuring a broad pool of eligible lawyers who are active and licensed.
After narrowing the field to thousands of finalists across various jurisdictions and specialties, the research team applied weighted criteria—including reputation, industry honors, influence, client roster, advocacy performance, practice impact, peer and client reviews, credentials, thought leadership, pro-bono work, mentorship and diversity efforts—to assess each lawyer. Additional factors such as involvement in high-profile cases, blockbuster verdicts, notable clients, and volume of business were also considered, with an emphasis on recent accomplishments. The final selection represents attorneys recognized for integrity, excellence and, now, Forbes’ endorsement, with no payment required for inclusion.
