Forestry Group Supports Prabowo's Push to Tighten Land-Burning Regulations

President Prabowo Subianto’s initiative to modify Indonesia’s limited land-burning rules has received support from the Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI), the nation’s main forestry industry body. APHI argues that changes to the regulations should be accompanied by stricter oversight, more robust law-enforcement actions and the promotion of alternatives to slash-and-burn clearing. The association highlights the danger of fires escaping confined areas, endangering local residents, forest ecosystems and business operations.

By aligning policy revisions with practical enforcement measures, the group aims to curb the spread of forest and land fires that have long plagued the country. APHI’s endorsement signals industry alignment with government efforts to strengthen fire prevention strategies.
