Former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain convicted of rioting abetment in Delhi 2020 unrest
A Delhi court found former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain guilty of abetting rioting during the 2020 Delhi riots.
In a verdict delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai at the Karkardooma Courts, former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain was found guilty of abetting rioting connected to an arson incident in Dayalpur, northeast Delhi, during the 2020 riots. The court acquitted twelve other defendants of every charge. The case was registered under IPC sections 147, 148, 149, 427, 436 and 120B, covering rioting, mischief and criminal conspiracy.
Hussain had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma, who was killed in the same wave of violence. Special Public Prosecutor Madhukar Pandey highlighted the brutality of the murder, noting the victim sustained 51 injuries, including 18 from sharp-edged weapons. The conviction underscores ongoing judicial scrutiny of participants in the 2020 Delhi disturbances.
