Former Amazon Studios chief Roy Price launches user-generated microdrama platform

Roy Price, who once led Amazon Studios, has unveiled Number One Best Website, a site for creators to post and monetize short vertical dramas.

Roy Price, the former head of Amazon Studios who left the company in 2017 following a sexual-harassment claim, has entered the microdrama market with Number One Best Website (N1BW). The new service functions as a hybrid of ReelShort, YouTube and StaffMeUp, allowing creators to upload short vertical series, find production partners and monetize their work via a token purchase model. Price distinguishes N1BW from competitors such as DramaBox and NetShort by emphasizing a decentralized, genre-agnostic library similar to YouTube or TikTok.

Revenue is split 70-30 between creators and the platform, with detailed percentages allocated to showrunners, directors, writers and music supervisors. All showcased projects currently rely on AI-generated video, which Price believes can deliver acceptable results for vertical formats. He cites market research predicting the vertical-content sector to reach $150 billion outside China by 2026, positioning N1BW as a potential alternative to mainstream streaming services.

Why it matters

The launch shows how former Hollywood executives are betting on AI-driven, user-generated short video to reshape entertainment revenue models.
