Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant Accused of Killing Wife After Threatening Texts
Caleb Flynn, a former “American Idol” contestant, is on trial for the aggravated murder of his wife Ashley Flynn, with prosecutors emphasizing over 100,000 texts to his mistress that include a message about planning her death.
During opening statements in a Miami County murder trial, prosecutors introduced a trove of over 100,000 texts between former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn and his mistress, including a chilling note in which he wrote he was “literally trying to think of ways to kill” his wife Ashley without being caught. The prosecution says the messages, sent over the year preceding the February 16 killing, demonstrate Flynn’s hatred for his spouse and his intent to eliminate her to pursue a future with the mistress.
Flynn, who has entered a not-guilty plea to aggravated murder, told 911 that an intruder broke into their Tipp City home and shot Ashley, a claim investigators dispute after finding no evidence of a break-in. Police body-camera footage showed Flynn describing the incident to officers, while an FBI agent testified that more than 80 neighboring homes were canvassed for surveillance evidence. Defense attorney Emily Smith conceded the affair but argued the digital correspondence is circumstantial and does not prove Flynn fired the gun. Jurors are set to resume deliberations after further testimony.
