Former Botoșani Hospital director admits guilt in bribery scheme over staff placements

DNA prosecutors in Suceava filed a recognition-of-guilt agreement with the former director of Spitalul Județean de Urgență „Mavromati” Botoșani, who admitted to continuous bribery in twelve material acts and the misuse of non-public information. Between December 2021 and July 2022 he allegedly accepted cash and gold jewellery via intermediaries, and in return facilitated transfers of medical assistants, hiring decisions and the allocation of positions in particular wards.

He is also accused of influencing competition conditions and supplying exam subjects to favored candidates. Under the deal he will serve a three-year suspended sentence, be subject to four years of supervision and perform 60 days of unpaid community work. A precautionary seizure of €21,000 and related items has been imposed, and the court will review the arrangement. DNA has previously secured similar agreements with twelve other individuals, with suspended sentences ranging from one year to two years and eight months.
