Former boxer and Iași gang leader Viorel Oarză dies after shooting, family agrees to organ donation

The 51-year-old Viorel Oarză, known as a former professional boxer and reputed leader of the “Brigada” criminal group in Iași, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a forest near the city. A companion, who was with him at the time, heard the shot, called 112 and later found Oarză lying injured. Emergency responders arrived to discover him in a deep coma, and he was kept alive on life-support machines.

This morning the medical team disconnected the equipment after his family consented to organ donation, and doctors are now conducting the necessary tests before proceeding. Oarză had reportedly told his friend they were driving into the woods before the incident. The case highlights ongoing violence linked to organized crime in the region.
