Former Catalan minister Toni Comín plans border crossing back to Catalonia
Toni Comín announced he will walk back into Catalonia with friends after a judge lifted the provisional arrest warrant against him.
Toni Comín, a former Catalan minister, confirmed his intention to re-enter Catalonia on foot, surrounded by friends and relatives, after a judge cancelled the provisional arrest warrant that had been imposed on him. The decision was issued in response to a constitutional court ruling that modified the Supreme Court’s doctrine regarding amnesty. While the legal case against him may be closed soon, Comín, who holds a seat in the European Parliament, must still travel to the Spanish Congress and fulfill paperwork with the Junta Electoral Central to formalise his mandate.
His return is being coordinated independently of former President Carles Puigdemont’s plans. The ex-minister also noted that his parliamentary seat has remained vacant since mid-2024, and legal appeals are ongoing to allow him to assume office without meeting all standard requirements.
