Former celebrity manager Ralph Carr receives six-year term for 2023 rape

In a courtroom streamed by video, former talent manager Ralph Carr was handed a six-year prison term by Judge Frank Gucciardo after a jury concluded he committed two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on a woman in March 2023. The victim had come to Carr’s home for a job discussion, later attended a football viewing at a friend’s house, and after a night of drinking and drug use was taken back to Carr’s West Melbourne residence where the assault occurred.

She resisted, striking Carr and labeling him a rapist before contacting her mother, who involved police. Carr denied the charges throughout his trial. The judge described the crime as an egregious violation of trust, noting the victim’s intoxication and repeated refusals, and set a minimum four-year non-parole period, factoring in Carr’s age, clean criminal history and mental-health considerations. Carr’s last attempt to secure bail pending appeal was rejected.
