Former CIA officer arrested for parole breach after taking missing Eli Lilly exec’s son

Russell Ashford, a 65-year-old retired CIA operative, was stopped in Pennsylvania after license-plate readers traced his vehicle leaving Washington, DC with his son, violating parole linked to a 2021 domestic-assault conviction for beating his ex-partner, Antoinette Forbes. The boy was found with Ashford and is reported to be safe and unharmed. Forbes, a 52-year-old vice-president and head of public affairs at Eli Lilly, disappeared from her DC residence on Sept. 4, leaving behind her purse, keys, car and dog.
Ashford had originally received a 15-year sentence but served only nine months before a judge vacated the guilty verdict this summer, placing him on probation that prohibited any contact with Forbes or their child. He allegedly attempted to retrieve the son from a summer camp last month, prompting the recent parole violation charge. Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible lodged the violation and emphasized the child's safety. The DC Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate Forbes’ disappearance, and Eli Lilly has pledged cooperation with authorities.
