Former convict and ex-congressional hopeful arrested for Hollywood triple murder
Patrick Kevin Spurlock, a 57-year-old former murder convict who once ran for Congress, was arrested and charged with three murders in a July Hollywood shooting.
Patrick Kevin Spurlock, a 57-year-old native of Compton, was taken into custody on Aug. 13 after police linked him to a July 24 altercation on Wilcox Avenue that left Jeremiah Badeker, Jack Cartegena and Michael Bogacz dead. Authorities say Spurlock drew a firearm, forced the three men to the ground and shot them repeatedly; the bodies were discovered during a wellness check on July 28. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed three murder counts with special allegations, including murder with a prior conviction, and additional felony charges.
Spurlock previously served a 17-year sentence for a 2003 second-degree murder of DeWayne Williams in Cowlitz County, Washington, after which he was released in 2022 and unsuccessfully sought a congressional seat as an independent, earning 2.1% of the primary vote. He is being held at the L.A. County Inmate Reception Center without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 31. His attorney has not yet responded to media inquiries.
