Former Czech exile Wolf faces new trial in Ostrava, possible extra two years

Wolf, who spent a year in Czech prison and another year detained in Paraguay, will be sentenced by the Ostrava District Court, with a potential additional two-year term.

After living abroad for nearly 13 years and seeking political asylum in Paraguay, Wolf ended the asylum process and returned to the Czech Republic. He was charged in January with obstructing an official decision related to his earlier escape. District prosecutor Petr Vaněk filed the indictment in August, and the Ostrava District Court is set to rule on his punishment. If convicted, Wolf could receive up to two more years behind bars, which will be added to the time he has already served.

Why it matters

The case highlights how Czech authorities handle asylum seekers who return and face charges for past illegal actions.
