Former Dallas Cowboy Dez Bryant claims officer pointed gun at him during Southlake dispute

Dez Bryant says a police officer aimed a gun at him in front of his daughters after a traffic-related clash in Southlake, Texas, and he was issued an assault citation.

Dez Bryant recounted that a traffic incident involving two vehicles near Chiloso Mexican Bistro escalated when he confronted the drivers, using profanity and knocking a phone from one man's hand. He claims a responding officer pointed a gun at him as he lay on the ground with his daughters watching, then handcuffed him and the other two men before releasing him with an "Assault by Contact" citation. Bryant criticized the police for relying on the other man's phone recording and not reviewing surrounding surveillance footage.

He noted his long-standing positive ties with Southlake officers, including one linked to his son’s Southlake Carroll football team, and urged a fair, thorough investigation. The citation requires his appearance at Southlake Municipal Court by November 20.

Why it matters

The incident raises questions about police use of force and how high-profile individuals are treated in routine traffic disputes.
