Former defence minister nominee says army modernization must continue despite parliamentary rejection

Radu Miruță, proposed as defence minister in the incoming Mureșan government, was denied approval by the parliamentary committees following consultative hearings. He told reporters that the needs of the Romanian Army are unchanged and that the modernization drive he initiated will continue irrespective of the future minister. Miruță cited 69 ongoing procurement contracts, of which 23 were started, executed and finished while he was in office.

He warned that one outlet human-resource policy does not match the realities of 2026 and that reforms are underway. He also called for the drone software programme to be fully managed by military personnel. Additionally, Miruță described a new fund financed by penalties from contracts to address past pension injustices for soldiers and reservists.
