Former DIICOT Ialomița chief sentenced to one year, fine for falsifying documents
The Constitutional Court's Criminal Chamber upheld a one-year prison term, suspended, and a monetary penalty for former DIICOT Ialomița chief Alexandru Mihailiuc on charges of intellectual falsification, false statements and use of false documents.
The Înalta Curte de Casație și Justiție's criminal division affirmed the conviction of Alexandru Mihailiuc, former head of DIICOT's Ialomița office, to a one-year imprisonment term that will be suspended while he serves a two-year supervisory regime, along with a financial penalty. The court further mandated the annulment of the fabricated documents that were used as evidence. Prosecutors had charged Mihailiuc with directing witnesses to record fictitious statements concerning the restitution of money seized during home raids, and with drafting three false reports submitted to the central control commission.
