Former energy minister Bogdan Ivan blames interim government for soaring fuel prices

Bogdan Ivan, a PSD deputy and former energy minister, criticized the interim government on Sunday for its inaction as fuel prices reached historic levels, with diesel exceeding 10 lei per litre. He argued that the executive could have prolonged the crisis state to lessen the impact on consumers but chose not to. Ivan said he has requested audits from the ANPC and the Competition Council to investigate pricing mechanisms, yet no response has been received.

Citing Romania's domestic oil production, which he claims doubles national gasoline consumption, he questioned why prices remain so high. He warned that similar spikes could affect electricity bills, noting August's record prices will set the benchmark for future offers. Ivan also condemned the continued shutdown of the Cernavodă nuclear plant, saying no one is questioning its month-long closure.
