Former EPA chief Christine Todd Whitman denounces Trump and backs new Forward Party

In an interview, former New Jersey governor and ex-EPA head Christine Todd Whitman criticizes Donald Trump’s rhetoric and actions, saying she will not return to the Republican Party and has co-founded the centrist Forward Party.

During a conversation, former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman expressed deep disillusionment with the Republican Party, blaming Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric and alleged encouragement of violence for the party’s decline. She referenced the Jan. 6 insurrection, pardons of participants, and dozens of incidents where Trump-inspired threats led to violent acts. Whitman highlighted Trump’s attacks on one outlet, environmental deregulation, and focus on personal profit over public interest.

Rejecting any return to the GOP, she helped launch the Forward Party with Andrew Yang, emphasizing principles of decency, democracy and diversity, and advocating electoral reforms such as open primaries and ranked-choice voting. Whitman warned that Trump’s behavior threatens both domestic stability and international alliances, urging accountability and legal consequences.
